2 Baptisms and Sunburnt in Brazil...not a bad week :)

Todo bem, família? Como vai, cara

So this week went super slow and super fast at the same time. Tuesday,
we had the baptism of Gonzalo cuz he was going to montevideo but he
did not want to wait til Sunday. He is such a prepared guy and already
blessed the sacrament yesterday. He was super nervous to give his
testimony after the baptism and we just told him say it from the
heart. So he got up and he asked everyone to shut their eyes and he
said a prayer. So that was super good and we had 36 whole people in
the baptism...which is incredible! But than it threw off the whole
week and wednesday and thursday went slow.

Than friday came. That was fun. i went on a speciel intercambio with
the zone leader from 33 to Chuy (Chuy is the one area in the mission
that you can obediently go to brazil...half of their tracting area is
in the other country). i went there was a greenie, but did not realize
how cool it actually was. During that time, i could not understand
spanish let alone porteguese. But this time was awesome. We started
off the day going out with a member who is just a straight up stud. he
only has a year in the church but goes out with the missionaries
multiple times a month (and oh ya...chuy is one of the most baptizing
areas in the mission and the ward is super awesome). I sadly did not
have any lessons in porteguese, but many many contacts. it was super
weird cuz they would talk in portuguese and we would respond in
spanish and it was all understood. Some contacts, i really had to
focus to translate the words to spanish but others were super easy. I
remember one contact where i understood every thing super clear cuz
she spoke well and slow. This is how close the two languages are.

Meu espozo estava falando com vocês antes
(pronouned anchays) i love portuguese pronunciation.
Mi esposo estaba hablando con ustedes antes.

But it was just super trippy. The sad part of the trip....i fried
myself. Like straight up fried. Dont tell mom, but all last summer i
did not once put on sun screen. In these last three months of heat i
havnt either. and it just turns out that the one day in brazil...i get
fried.

Than saturday was a really cool day. We baptized nelly. she loves her
baptism and a lot of people came to support her. She was really scared
that i was gonna drown her. She did not drown and it went great...i
only had to dunk her once :)

After the baptism, we had a birthday party of Gabriela, the recent
convert. her family loves loves loves us. I dont remember if i told
you guys but they got a new dog not too long ago. they wanted to name
it Manya (which is from a soccer team) Georgie, or Marly (for bob
marly). i said they were all lame names and told them they should call
it christensen. so i called the dog christensen for like two days
straight, and than they mom started too, and than gabriela. and now,
the name has stuck!!!!!! they named their dog Christensen!?!?!?!?! ya
i dont know either, but its awesome. I go over and she always starts
with, ¨Guess what christensen left us in our room this morning....¨ or
something like that. Anyways, they love us. My comp made them tacos
and i kinda helped but not really and they made fun of me and said my
comp did it all and that despite that mexico is closer to utah than to
Argentina, that he knew more. (i was the one who suggested the tacos)
i let some pride get in the way and the next time we came, i showed up
with butter and coco and asked if they had eggs, flour and sugar.
hehehehe i do feel kinda bad that i blew my comps food outta the water
with brownies...but it is a pretty important american food. They
called them the desert of the gods. But it got worse. They made them
as the dessert for their daughters b day!! they cut them into squares
and wrote stuff on top and did all kinda crazy things. Now they are
famous. And there were a lot of people at that party so HAHA brownies
vs tacos...brownies win that battle 9 times outta 10.

Alright, i think that is all that happened. Now that we baptized these
two and than we ll have two more before christmas, we are kinda out of
investigators. so we will be on the look this week. But i am enjoying
myself out here. Thank you for everyone that writes me.

Love Elder Christensen

and p.s. i dont think i ever wrote it i wanted to thank grandma powell
and christensen that they gave me awhile back. with one i brought  my
Chelsea soccer jacket and the other a soccer ball that we play with
every p day. so thank you guys very, very much, i love you

and a little explination on the pics. The baptisms are obvious. The
three drinks are Guaraná Antartica. it is a drink only bought in
brazil and is amazing.  i cheaply bought 4, which was over 13 liters.
hehe there is only three there cuz i left one for the zone leaders.

and the one of me pointing at the window. well, it is the only stinkin
thing is brazil that says the word brazil!!! they dont have anything
like Welcome to Brazil or nothing. so this was my only proof.
