My Dearest Family,

Tons of stuff has happened this week. so lets see where i will start....

Our DOM left. He was such a stud. he left with us many times a week
and knew the ward incredibly well. But he will be a super stud
misisonariy in paraguay. We got permission to go to his setting apart.
It reminded me a lot of when i left. Afterwards, we had our last good
byes. We hugged and he told me how great it was to work with me and
all that stuff, and i just couldnt talk. all that emotion got clogged
up in my throat. I finally squeaked out one word that meant like
¨likewise¨. I am not afraid to admit that it is only the third time
that i have cried on the mission. He will be missed.

I learned something new this week. If you take a match and flick it
like a paper football off the box, it will light and fly thru the air
ON FIRE. it is awesome. So all thru the day, we were thinking of ways
we could have fun with this. We got home and we built a make shift
paper city out of old letters. They were more like weird lean-twos.
Than, after spending about a dollar fifty, we bought over 15 boxes of
matches. Ya, i never knew they were so cheap...but that makes pretty
cheap fun. We than launched hundreds of little flaming matchs at our
paper city. hahahaha it was awesome.

i dont know if it was on any of your calendars at home...but i just
hit 18 months. So WE BURNT SOME PANTS. it is tradition. and i had some
pants with a very, very big hole not possible to fix unless you just
burnt it and started over. So first, everyone took shots at me with
axe..which was quite hot. And than we burned it outside. Clothes are
so cool to burn cuz they are like half plastic and just melt
awesome like. but wow....one year and six months.

And the last thing. i had an epiphany in a class in church. Me and my
comp had been talking about parenting. I ve always thought like no
yelling, use more of persuasion and trickery. But the more i have
thought, the more i think that maybe you gotta be harder. We see lots
of that type of parenting here with little affect on the children, so
definately not so extreme. But the more i thought about it is that you
cant be the cool parent or your kids will walk all over you. Than the
epiphany. We were talking about D and C 121 and moroni 7. That is when
i figured out that my little theory was ever so wrong and that you
have to be patient, long suffering, persuasive, loving, all
sufferening, and lots of other english words that i do not know how to
translate. That you cannot use unjust dominion just cuz you are the
dad and they are the child. So...the gospel supports that type of
parenting and that is what you have to do. So it is all about the
patience and the love, and i think that ll help in any childs home.

Thank you all for writing. i love you all so very much. Have a great week.

Love Elder Christensen
